We’re really excited to announce that in late 2017, Trenchers was shortlisted as one of the final six Independent Fish & Chip Restaurants in the UK, as part of the 30th anniversary National Fish & Chip Awards, organised by Seafish. To make it even more exciting, we’re the only restaurant shortlisted in the North of England!

To reach this stage of the competition, all finalists have been assessed by industry experts across a wide variety of judging criteria including responsible sourcing policies, menu diversification, innovation, restaurant facilities and appearance, staff training, development practices, and marketing and promotional activity.

In the past few weeks, the judges have undertaken further in-depth audits to assess both the front and back–of-house operations. The final stage of competition judging will determine the overall national winner who will be announced at the 30th anniversary awards ceremony.

Andrew Wilkinson, Trenchers’ General Manager and his hard-working team, are hoping to bring home the award to Yorkshire. Andrew first came to Trenchers to celebrate his 6th birthday party in 1985 before joining as a table attendant aged 13 and has been linked to the restaurant ever since.

Marcus Coleman, Chief Executive at Seafish, said: “Fish and chips have always been right at the heart of British culture. I would like to offer my congratulations to our finalists - they are worthy ambassadors and truly champion the values that underpin our industry.”
